Outer Limits- Demon with a Glass Hand

I thought I would let all five of you know that I am working on a pretty elaborate piece based on the beloved television science fiction anthology series entitled Outer Limits, so I thought I would share the different images from the piece in conjunction with the episode that inspired said image.

So, here's a pice from Demon with a Glass Hand, one of my favorite episodes, starring Robert Culp:

And here is my stupid image:

Look at that paper carefully, if you can, lol.

I'll post an image a week from the piece as I go.

May the Force be with you, always.

Battle: Los Angeles storyboards 006

The whole point of this scene is to have the aliens torture a wounded human soldier.

Another fine Inspector Clouseau moment:)

Lol.

Prehistoric Times interview

For some reason, Prehistoric Times publisher Mike Fredricks not only thinks that my blog is NOT stupid, which all five of you know it really is, but somehow Fredricks has decided to interview me about Jurassic Park 3 in the most recent issue.

Hm, who of the three names on that cover does NOT belong there? I'll give you a hint, he runs this blog.

You can order this issue and/or subscribe here: prehistorictimes.com

Battle: Los Angeles Storyboards 001

I spent a few weeks working on BLA, and here's the first of a bunch of panels from the picture, both rough and more finished. Thanks to my student Fernando Olmedo for scanning these babies.

Storyboard panel of the day 021

Reno 911- Dungeons and Dragons

This is very funny, unless you're a kid and you should not be watching this...

Burny Mattinson: a fine fellow

I met Burny Mattinson at during my days at Disney Feature Animation. Now the place is called Disney Animation Studios, but regardless, Burny's a good friend and he recently celebrated sixty years at the company and the studio graciously had a day for him. I wish I had been there, but in the absence of that here's a few pics of the even that I pulled off the web.

There's Burny, as humble a man as I've ever met. He started out on Sleeping Beauty, then became an animator, story man and director.

From Left to Right: Ron Clements, Eric Goldberg, John Musker, Burny, John Lassetter, unknown, and Andrew Millstein.

Ron's holding a 101 Dalmations book. Burny told me that Ron said that the book is the reason that he wanted to work at Disney animation, and the illustrator of that book is, that's right, Burny Mattinson.

This is the really cool cake they make for the event...

...and the official proclamation from LA county.

Well done, Burn, lol!

My Godzilla's better:)

I'll reserve final judgement until I see the finished movie, and this might be the one and only time I brag about something on this blog, but it this is the new Godzilla:

...well, I like mine better, and all five of you know I usually hate my own stuff.

Jean Leon Gerome's Death of Caesar

I'm posting this magnificent piece to point out to all five of you what a real artist is. I am a cartoonist that draws monsters, and I'm okay with that, and yet this type of jaw-dropping art is beyond my feeble skills.

From 1867

Oviraptor

From my really stupid 1999 calender. I like the orange on the claws though.

I'm not going to Comic Con

I had a table reserved in the Small Press section, and I've decided not to attend the con this year. Sorry to all five of you. You can come by next year and tell me how awful my art is, and I'd agree with you:)

In case you're not going and need a Comic Con fix, here you go!

Storyboard panel of the day 018

If you blur the background and lighten the value of the line, the impression of depth and motion can be created. Boy, I'm craving a cheeseburger.

DESTROY ALL MONSTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't wait to see Pacific Rim in a couple of days, and this pic is pretty cool. Ghidora looks a little small, and who's that little guy hanging right next to him?

I must confess an unnatural HATRED of baby Godzilla.

Disney's Dinosaur- Vorax

For a while there was a character in the story that was a weird pterosaur/bird combination. I thought it was a dumb idea, but here's my version. It looks like a muppet, lol.

More character test design stuff

Yer mamma, yer daddy, yer bald-headed granny. Those are pimples on his butt:)

Mad Monster Party Model Sheets

As all five of you know, I love Halloween and grew up loving Mad Monster Party, a stop-motion TV special from Rankin Bass, and here's a few of the model sheets, done by the great illustrator Jack Davis, as well as a trailer for the picture, which you an get on DVD.

I highly recommend this film if you have not seen it!
