Happy Easter from David Roberts

One of my favorite artists, Mr. Roberts was one of the main inspirations of my comic book Hieroglyph.

No longer stupid

Due to overwhelming advice, my blog will no longer be stupid even though all five of us know it really is.

Disney's Dinosaur- Oviraptor

I don't mind this one, even though the dino only has three limbs, lol.

Crescent Meadow, Sequoia National Park

This is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to. I've been here with my family often, and watched my kids grow up at this place. A little slice of heaven for me.

Disney's Dinosaur- Nanshungosaurus

This drawing feels more like science fiction than an actual dinosaur.

Disney's Dinosaur- Ankylosaurus

Looks like I just combined all the different armor plating from all the different species into one design here, lol.

Disneyland train ride!

When I was a kid we all would ride the train around the park before heading inside, and it ended with of course the time of the dinosaurs. And when I had a family of my own, we always used to do the same thing.

All aboard!

Disney's Dinosaur- Pterosaur thing

At a certain point, scientific accuracy and attention to placing species in an accurate time period were thrown out the window, and under that climate I generated this image. This was for a minor character called Vorax which ended up being axed from the story.

On another level, a framed version of this image hung in the lobby in one of the other buildings that Disney used to house their feature animation productions. I think I was on Atlantis at the time, and it was funny for me to see that image up on the wall, and it made me on a few occasion think about how far I had come in my life, to go from being a kid with not a lot to hanging in in the lobby of a Disney building.

I'm the least coolest person in this picture

This was taken over a decade ago. Thanks to Mike Fredricks of Prehistoric Times Magazine.

Great, amazing kids:)

Nice shirt:(

Disney's Dinosaur- Parasaurolophus

I think I posted this design before, but you can never get enough of a bad thing...

Disney's Dinosaur- Utahraptor

This project quickly went from ambitious and naturalistic to silly and cliche-ridden. Land Before Time with a large budget.

Disney's Dinosaur- Amargasaurus

Over the next few weeks, I'm going to show the concepts that I came up with while I was working at Disney Feature Animation in the mid'90's on the picture that turned out to be Disney's Dinosaur.

This is an Amargasaurus. I don't mind the color scheme on this baby.

Reverse angle on Paramount Gates

So, if you were to stand at the Bronson Gates and look into the studio, you would see this:

Ahead is stage four, where a bunch of DS9's sets were built back in the day, and in between the buildings on the left you can clearly see the Hollywood sign, lol.

Hawk and pidgeon

I was changing the registration sticker to one of the family cars when I heard a whooosh, then the sound of two bodies colliding, then the flapping of wings. I looked around and saw this:

Those are feathers scattered all over the street, and that's a red-tailed hawk standing over a friendly neighborhood pidgeon it had just caught.

It held the pidgeon while the life ran out of it. It's been a while since I'd seen life run out of something, so I just stood there, transfixed. It looked at me while its prey squirmed and died, them flew up to a perch to watch the pidgeon's life ebb from the safety of the top of a lightpost:

After a bit, the hawk flew down and stood over the pidgeon, and I thought it was too heavy for the hawk to carry it away, but it did, flying up to the palm tree in the pic to enjoy its catch of the day. Look at the light post in the second pic. You'll see the hawk on the top of the streetlight. You can also see the blood oozing out of the poor pidgeon.

Late afternoon on the lot

Looking down past stages 17 and 4 on the lot. 4 is where much of DS9 was shot, and 17 is where the Promenade set that I helped design was housed.
The Bronson Gate is right around the corner, as if I took the first pic, then took fifty steps back and snapped another pic.
