Value study for Baby Turtles pages 4&5
I've started to do value studies for each page, to further guide the colorist as to what is needed for each particular panel, and here's the value study for these pages:
I'm a big fan of Gustave Dore, so much of his work influences me on these values studies.

The death of the Phantom Stage
When I was a kid just out of school, I worked a great deal on the Universal Studios lot, on such stuff like Beverly Hills Cop 3, Apollo 13 and Seaquest DSV. On Seaquest, a fun but silly show, I had the luck to walk onto Stage 28 on the lot, where the studio had shot the Original Phantom of the Opera in the mid 1920's, and I was amazed seeing the original opera set still built along the walls of the stage!
Here's a better look inside:
Sorry, it's a little blurry.
Here's another angle:
And here's the set from the actual film:
Look carefully at the balconies. A decade later, one of them would be used to shoot a scene from Dracula:
And eighty years later it would look like this:
And it would look like this during the shooting of the show I worked on while I marveled at the opera set all around our silly sets:
How a kid like me ended up being lucky enough to be on that stage and feel a little bit of Hollywood history around me, I'm still wondering.
So, the stage was torn down recently:
So the stage where the Phantom lived died, but the memories, for me, remain.
Thought all five of you would like to read this:)

Yep, it's a salmon!
All five of you have to be thinking there's just a million fish in this story.
Not a million, but a lot.

What's the coolest motorcycle in movies?
Is it the cool red bike in Akira?
Or is it the awesome Lightcycle from Tron?
Or the amazing Bat Pod from Dark Knight?
EDIT: I forgot to add the Tron- Legacy bike stuff. That was cool as well.
Me, I like 'em all!

Age of Reptiles- Baby Turtles: Protosphyraena color study
I'd rather say Beetlejuice three times than Protosphyraena.
Really tried to show a lot of different species interacting in this story.

Age of Reptiles- Baby Turtles color scheme: Hesperornis
Small primative seabird from Cretaceous North America. These background characters are awesome to show the scale of the bigger species.
This horrible drawing is meant for production, not publication, in the sense that it should give the colorist of the story the info to color the line drawing in the story.

Age of Reptiles- Baby Turtles/ Tylosaur color scheme
Hi everyone, in anticipation of the release of Baby Turtles next month, I'm going to start posting some of the color schemes I came up with for the characters. These were then given to the colorist to with with as he or she executes the final images.
The Tylo's tail is short because I ran out of room on the page, lol.
Edit- This is basically the same color scheme for the Tylosaur in my previous series, The Journey, the one that fights the rex in the fourth issue, and I guess I'm subconsciously tying these stories all together. I like the idea of the white-mouthed Tylo. Always liked the Cottonmouth Moccasin, but also think that everyone sees this and thinks Killer Whale and that's cool too.
